James Donio, President of the Music Business Association (Music Biz), commented on this week’s sales numbers issued by Nielsen (published in Billboard) and Border City Media:

ZaynZayn made a huge impact in his first week on the charts as a solo artist, moving 157,000 album equivalent units (including 112,000 in traditional sales) of Mind of Mine to debut at #1 on the Nielsen and BuzzAngle Music charts and become the first-ever male U.K. solo artist to start at the top with their first album. He’s also the first U.K. act to debut at #1 with their first album since his former group One Direction accomplished that feat in 2012. He joins last week’s #1 Gwen Stefani, Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, and a small handful of others as the only artists to top the charts as both a member of a band and a solo act. Other notable Top 10 debuts this week include K. Michelle with More Issues Than Vogue, Young Thug with Slime Season 3, and Asking Alexandria with The Black. Next week, we’ll be keeping an eye on Alternative Rock veterans Weezer as they return with their newest self-titled record, also known as The White Album, and our Music Biz 2016 Chairman’s Award recipients Cheap Trick as they impact the charts with Bang, Zoom, Crazy… Hello.
